The first Pacific Community Radio Roundtable convened by AMARC will coincide with the FemLINKPACIFIC’s Annual Young Women’s Media and Advocacy Skills Training Programme. The Pacific Community Radio Round Table will be held from February 11-12, 2013 to be succeeded by a capacity building workshop for community radio broadcasters of the Pacific Region to be held from February 13-14, 2013. Both events will be organized in collaboration with the WACC Pacific regional committee and held in Suva, Fiji Islands.
AMARC has initiated a survey to research prevailing conditions of community broadcasting in the Pacific region. Initial outcomes of the survey -- including analysis of existing legislative and policy arrangements, availability of support from governmental and non-governmental sectors, content diversity and broadcasting plans, strategic framework for sustainability, and other dimensions to cover the overall framework comprising of the CR sector, will be presented at the Pacific Community Radio Round Table. AMARC will bring its rich experience of advocacy and increasing impact of community broadcasting to the Round Table to strengthen advocacy for community broadcasting in the Pacific Island countries and to enable community radios in the Pacific to address climate change, natural disaster, conflict and gender based issues through community broadcasting.
The Pacific Community radio Round Table and capacity building workshops are supported by the Pacific Media Assistance Scheme, World Association of Christian Communication (WACC) and New Zealand Aid Programme.
